The Children’s Hunger Project
Health First Fight Child Hunger 5K is an annual event conducted by The Children’s Hunger Project. The Children’s Hunger Project is dedicated to helping elementary school children in need by providing them with food to take home for weekends and during school breaks. The goal is to ensure these children have access to basic nutrition during times when they do not have access to school meals. These children are recognized by Brevard County teachers, and The Children’s Hunger Project relies on the generosity of corporations, civic groups, faith-based organizations, individuals, and volunteers who prep, pack, and distribute all of the backpack food to the schools.
Their food assistance program includes non-perishable items such as canned ravioli, rice with chicken and vegetables, breakfast bars, cereal, milk, juice boxes, and other kid-friendly food items. Food items that are easy to handle, light enough for children to carry, and do not require cooking or electricity to prepare are included. This is because The Children’s Hunger Project understands that children may not have access to cooking facilities or have adult supervision to prepare meals.
Why The Children’s Hunger Project Is Significant
In Brevard County, more than half of the youngsters receive free or reduced-price meals. Some elementary schools have 80% or more of their students on the free and reduced-price lunch program, putting them in danger of childhood hunger and malnutrition. To their credit, Brevard County Schools offer a free breakfast and a nutritious lunch through the program during the week. For some students, however, lunch on Friday will be their final normal meal until the following Monday. The Children's Hunger Project, Inc. serves weekend meals and combats childhood hunger and malnutrition during the school year. The idea is that everyone must address childhood hunger and that no kid should go without food or proper nourishment for two days or longer.

Health First Fight Child Hunger 5K 2024
DC Roofing, Inc. participated in the Health First Fight Child Hunger 5K 2024. This event aims to make a huge difference in the lives of children at risk of hunger. For a tax-deductible donation of $1,000, local businesses, congregations, and individuals join the Race To End Childhood Hunger and help hungry kids in the County. DC Roofing, Inc. is aware that 100% of proceeds from this event help feed local vulnerable children, making this an event worthwhile to participate in.
DC Roofing, Inc. placed first in the team event. The local premier roofing company was delighted that the DC Roofing, Inc. family showcased a stellar performance at the race. Colleen was placed first in her age group and first in the Master's Division, and she secured the 4th overall rank among females. Lucas Wulf was first in his age group, while Sophia Wulf was first overall. Miles and Amie secured second place in their respective age groups.
